The 360 hour research project is the capstone of the MSTC program. Students usually have a subject area of interest for their project in mind. They will have to go to the University of Kentucky to ask to be under the mentorship of one of the professors in their field of interest. These selections occur during the first semester of junior year. Once a mentor has accepted the student, the student will have to complete about 150 hours the second semester of junior year, 60 hours over the summer, and then a final 150 hours the first semester of senior year, leading to a grand total of 360 hours for the research project. During the second semester of senior year, the students work on analyzing their data, writing their research paper, and practicing their presentations. All of this is for the preparation for Senior Symposium. During Senior Symposium, each student presents their work to an audience including parents, students, mentors, and other people. This event is open to the public. These presentation are to show what the students have accomplished. To have a glance at MSTC students' research projects, please click below. |
