PLD

The Math, Science & Technology Center  (aka. MSTC) is a prestigious magnet program founded in 1991. Students throughout the Fayette County District are drawn in to join the program, and are selected for the program based on their scores on a logic/reasoning test and an interest inventory survey. Once accepted to the program, thou shalt be dubbed a Magnet.

MSTC offers a four-year program designed to develop students who are internationally competitive in mathematics and science. Each science and mathematics course offered is designed for students working at an advanced level. MSTC courses are faster paced than traditional courses and have curriculum designed to challenge the students.

Other classes, such as history, English, foreign language, the arts, and extracurricular activities, are available through Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. All students must complete four years of English, three years of the same foreign language, and three years of social studies along with their 15 other MSTC classes. Students usually pursue their course at the highest level available.

Although MSTC is an academically challenging program, students are encouraged to participate in many extracurricular activities. Other than academic team, MSTC students are active in track, volley ball, tennis, as well as the school band and orchestra. Many have been participating in All State events for art and music. Many have also been accepted to the Governor's School of the Arts and Governor's Scholar Program.

Upon their graduation, many students would have made it to the Semi-Finalist or Finalist of the National Merit Scholarship Award.
