EKU College of Justice & Safety will have open houses on Saturday, Nov. 21, and Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Stratton Building. For more information & registration visit their website.


The Booktique will be temporarily closed in the morning and in the afternoon until inventory has been completed. They will be having a sidewalk sale on November 19 and 23 although the store itself will be closed. Only merchandise on the sidewalk sale will be sold during this time. The store plans to re-open on December 1.

Wednesday, December 2nd at 4:45 at Tates Creek High School in the library media center, the Lexington Board of Realtors will be rolling out their Building Your Bucks program for middle and high schools. This software program will enable teachers, students and parents to learn a basic, easy to understand blueprint for their financial future that correlates perfectly with career education curriculum units as well as guidelines for 21st century learners. Representatives from LBAR will give a demonstration that will last approximately 30-45 minutes with time afterwards for questions.


Kaplan Test Prep is offering a FREE “10Q” 1 hour workshop where students will try 10 tough ACT/SAT questions and learn 10 winning strategies to help them succeed on Test day.

Time: 10-11 am
Sign up in the Guidance office before Nov. 18.


JUNIOR INFORMATION NIGHT for parents and students will be held on Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 at 6:30 PM in the PLD cafeteria. The snow date will be Thursday, December 10th. Please save this date on your calendar for this important event. Presenters from local colleges, military, financial aid and technical schools will be present to provide information and answer questions. Free materials will be available. Don’t miss this opportunity to get a head start for senior year!


The Governor’s School for the Arts is also accepting applications and scheduling auditions. The deadline for application is December 31st. Go to www.kentuckygsa.org or see Mr. Parish in the counseling office for more information.


An ACT Review Course is being offered by Sullivan University, December 5 and 6, 10 am -2:30 pm. Lunch will be included. Cost: $75.00. To register call 276-4357.


Governor’s Scholars Program (GSP) Selection Process has begun. Instructions for the selection process and the application process are detailed on the Governor’s Scholars Program website: www.gsp.ky.gov. Completed applications with essays and teacher/guidance counselor recommendations are due to the Guidance Office on December 1, 2009 by the end of the school day. NO EXCEPTIONS FOR LATE APPLICATIONS. Be sure to give teachers AMPLE time to complete recommendations. All of the application forms can be downloaded from the GSP website. Copies of the forms will not be provided by the Guidance Office. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Mr. Parish in the Guidance Office.

ATTENTION SENIORS: If you have counselor or teacher college recommendations that are due in December or January, those forms or online requests need to be given to the appropriate person no later than December 1st!!! If you have questions regarding the recommendation process, please see your counselor immediately.


Murray State University presents African American Honors Day on Friday and Saturday, January 22 and 23, 2010. The Bus will arrive at Dunbar at 3 p.m to pick up students. The cost of the trip is $25 and that covers meals and overnight accommodations. Please sign up by January 8, 2010 with Mr. Duerson in the Guidance Office.


Attention Seniors, Sullivan University is offering a tuition free class toward your college degree during your second semester of high school. Classes begin January 4, 2010. For additional information call 859-276-4357.


Eastern Kentucky University will be offering Spotlight Days on the following days:  Nov. 21, Dec. 12, Jan. 23


University of Kentucky Student Athletic Trainer UK is looking for students who have an interest in a career in the medical field and the profession of athletic training and sports medicine. Scholarships are available. Applications are available in the Guidance Office. Deadline is February 1, 2010
