Acceptable Use
Policy The Paul
Laurence Dunbar High School Staff supports the right of
students to have access to various information formats
and electronic resources. However, we believe it
is incumbent upon students to use this privilege in an
appropriate and responsible manner. As we increase
the opportunities for students to utilize these
resources, we have determined the following Acceptable
Use Policy shall govern the use of the school's
computers, software, multimedia, and network.

The behaviors deemed
unacceptable and their consequences are:

Consequences:
|
| 1. Displaying or
sending offensive messages or pictures on the network or while using
any school owned computer. |
The
individual will lose the privilege of using any Paul Laurence Dunbar
High School computer for a minimum period of twenty (20) school days or more
if determined necessary by the Principal. The individual is
also subject to the Code of Conduct set forth by the Fayette County
School Board. Other faculty members will be notified of the
student's loss of privileges. |
| 2. Sending a
threatening or harassing message. |
| 3. Violating
copyright laws. This includes making illegal copies of school
owned software. |
| 4.Trespassing in
another's files or misusing another's files. |
| 5. Other unethical/inappropriate
use of the school's equipment. |
| 6.
Using another's password and/or revealing passwords to others. |
| 7.
Publishing inappropriate information on the PLD web page. |
| 8.
Interfering with the integrity of the school's network and e-mail
system. |
| 9.
Intentionally spreading embedded messages or files. |
| 10.
Illegal activity or other activity that violates either Paul
Laurence Dunbar High School Policy or Fayette County School Policy. |

11.
Intentionally damaging any part of the computer hardware, software,
the network, or multimedia such as digital cameras, sound boards,
graphing calculators, etc. This includes theft of any hardware,
software or multimedia.

If
the repair or replacement costs exceed $50.00, it is considered a
major offense and the individual will be suspended from school and
must pay the repair/replacement costs. If under $50.00, the
individual will pay the repair/replacement costs. In the case
of theft, the individual will be suspended from school. He/She will
return the items and any copies of software. If there is any
damage, the individual will reimburse Paul Laurence Dunbar High
School. The individual will lose the privilege of using any
PLD school computer or multimedia for a period of time to be
determined by the Principal. |

Additional
Assertions: |
|
Violations
judged to be major offenses, may result in the individual losing the
right to use school computers for an extended period of time.
It may also result in the loss of additional privileges. |
| Violations
committed by students who are taking a computer related class will
result in the consequence described for that particular offense and
removal from the class. |
| In
the event of a second offense, the individual may be subject to
suspension from school or recommended for expulsion from Fayette
County Schools. |
| Violation
to or inappropriate use of PLD's e-mail system may result in the
loss of the student's e-mail account. |

The
Outlook Live e-mail solution is provided to your child by the district
as part of the Live@edu service from Microsoft. By signing this form,
you hereby accept and agree that your child’s rights to use the Outlook
Live e-mail service, and other Live@edu services as the Kentucky
Department of Education may provide over time, are subject to the terms
and conditions set forth in district policy/procedure as provided and
that the data stored in such Live@edu services, including the Outlook
Live e-mail service, are managed by the district pursuant to policy
08.2323 and accompanying procedures. You also understand that the
Windows Live ID provided to your child also can be used to access other
electronic services that provide features such as online storage and
instant messaging. Use of those Microsoft services is subject to
Microsoft’s standard consumer terms of use (the Windows Live Service
Agreement), and data stored in those systems are managed pursuant to the
Windows Live Service Agreement and the Microsoft Online Privacy
Statement. Before your child can use those Microsoft services, he/she
must accept the Windows Live Service Agreement and, in certain cases,
obtain your consent.
