Bluegrass Challenge Academy

"The mission of the Bluegrass challenge Academy is to train and mentor selected High School dropouts, both male and female, to become contributing members of society using the 8 core components in a quasi-military environment during a 22-week residential and a one-year follow-up program which provides a strong network of support for the individual." Accepted Cadets will be provided room and board and a weekly living allowance for 22 weeks. Upon successful completion of the program, the students will have access to a stipend for future life endeavors (ie, schooling, tools or equipment for a job). Students receive job skill training as well as complete their GED. Information website: www.ngycp.org/ky/ .


Frenchburg Job Corps

Job corps is the largest residential education and training program in the US for youth age 16-24. Created under President lyndon B. Johnson in 1964, Job Corps is administered by the UD Department of Labor and has assisted more than than 1.6 million young people nationwide. Students receive both their GED or high school diploma, and job training. They also receive a biweekly stipend throughout their enrollment and paid a stipend upon completion of the program.


GED

Students who have dropped out of high school can earn their GED (General Education Development), which is a high school equivalency program. This can assist adults in increasing their wage potential , job opportunities, or allow pursuits of furthering their education. MLK E-school program

Martin L. King Academy is offering this program to students who need to earn credits outside of their high school, to make up credits, or to finish their high school diploma outside of their high school. Students complete the course work via the internet, then report to MLK to take the final exam for the course. There is a fee of $100 per 1/2 credit or $200 per semester for as many classes as can be completed. Interested students should see their counselor for eligibility criteria, available courses, and an application.


MLK GED Program

Martin L. King Academy is offering this program to students who need to earn their GED. Students will report to MLK for 15 hours of instruction geared to assist students in passing the GED test. Interested students should see their counselor for additional information.


MLK Night School Program

Martin L. King Academy offers this program to students who are two years behind their graduating class or have other extenuating circumstances. Students can attend MLK to complete their high school diploma requirements via computer coursework on PLATO. Students must have a job and meet other eligibility criteria. Interested students should see their counselor for additional information  and an application.
